After Care 2017-18
The Saltwater School offers an Aftercare program to children on an as needed basis. We know it is preferable for children to go home with their parents after their regular classes but when this is not possible, we believe it is best to provide extended care in an environment already familiar to the children.
Our staff members are Licensed ECE professionals and Saltwater Faculty members. The After-School care program will run when classes are in session only (no holidays or weekends).
Preschool children are met in their classroom by Aftercare staff at 1:00 pm. They will have time to unwind from their morning while engaging in quiet activities, outdoor time, free play and occasional visits to neighboring parks.
Kindergarten children are met by the Aftercare staff at 2:00. Their afternoon includes outdoor play in the schoolyard and occasional walks to neighboring parks, quiet time with a story if the children feel the need to rest, a late afternoon snack (provided by parents), art activities and free play with active and quiet games.
Grade school children will meet the group at the Preschool class (accompanied by an adult) at 3:00 for an afternoon of indoor play, outdoor time, late afternoon snack, reading and activities such as crafts, cooking, felting, nature walks and self-initiated projects.
Parents are responsible for providing a nutritious late afternoon snack (“mousey snack” of dried fruit and nuts provided by the program), dressing their child in appropriate clothing for the weather, and signing out their child at pick-up. Please note that we have a no peanut policy in place at our school.
The Aftercare program is currently open to families already registered at the Saltwater Waldorf School. Acceptance is based on a first come first serve basis. The After-school care program does not guarantee a spot to drop-in users. Preference will be given to those who commit to after-school care on a monthly basis.
Program Registration and Payment Information
Parents must submit a completed Registration Form before their child joins the Aftercare program including occasional-use children.
Parents will be billed by the school at the end of each month. The Saltwater Waldorf School uses the CAFT or Customer Automated Funds Transfer system in order to receive tuition. Parents are required to provide a a). void cheque and a b). Pr-Authorized Debit Form (which is included with this registration form).
Please note that all tuition and associated fees will be transferred to the Saltwater Education Society account on the first business day of the month. If the first of the month falls on a weekend, the fund transfers will occur on the first Monday following that weekend.
A penalty of $10 will be charged for NSF payments.
The After-School Care program is licensed for a maximum of 8 children per day. Occasional users or drop-in users are allowed as long as the After-school care giver is given 24 hours’ notice.
A fee of $7 per hour will be charged to those who register and a fee of $10/hour will be charged for drop-in users.
If a child is registered in the program until 3:00 pm and is picked up after 3:15 pm, parents will be charged in 15 minute increments until pick up.
If a child is registered until 5:30 pm and is picked up after 5:45 pm the parents will be charged $10 for each 15 minute segment or any portion of the segment. Pick-up after 5:30 pm is particularly difficult for staff and we therefore want to make every effort to discourage it.
If a parent is late picking up their child more than three times they may be asked to leave the program.
Regular Use Fees
Written notice must be given to the school 2 weeks in advance if parents plan to withdraw their children from the after-school care program.
If you are not picking up your children from aftercare, you need to email Administrator to inform her who is picking your child up. Please provide the name, a physical description and indicate what the relationship to your child is. Also, please let your child know if you will not be picking them up that day.
