Rebecca Watkin - Class 5-6 Teacher, Handwork Teacher & Pedagogical Administrator
Rebecca began blogging about beginning a Waldorf School in the Comox Valley in 2008. As a founder of the Saltwater Waldorf School, she is very pleased that this dream has become a reality!
Rebecca earned an English degree from Simon Fraser University. Searching for teacher training, Rebecca found Waldorf education and was hooked. She studied in Toronto at the Rudolf Steiner Centre, becoming a Waldorf teacher, meeting her husband Aaron and then moving back to the west. Rebecca spent her first three years of teaching at the Vancouver Waldorf School, where she was mentored by many talented and experienced teachers. After three years away from teaching to have two beautiful girls, she taught for 2 years at Morning Glory Waldorf School in Qualicum Beach. Committing the next two years to establishing Waldorf education in Courtenay. Rebecca also teaches handwork and gardening to the grades classes. Outside of school she enjoys felting beautiful creations and spending time with her family.
Rebecca wears many hats at the school and has enrolled in a Master’s program in Educational Leadership at Vancouver Island University in Nanaimo. Rebecca will be increasing her hours as the school’s Pedagogical Coordinator.
