Lucia Perez - Preschool Teacher & ECE Faculty Chair
Lucia is happy to embark on her fifth year in the Saltwater Waldorf School, leading the Preschool Program.
Soon after moving to Canada, Lucia graduated from North Island College, receiving her ECE certification. She is passionate about early childhood education, and believes in fostering a sense of wonder and purpose, an early connection with nature, and honoring development as a unique individual path. Lucia believes attachment is at the core of human relationships, and that a healthy class and school community support the development of the children.
Lucia's journey has led her to complete her Early Childhood Waldorf teacher training at the West Coast Institute for Anthroposophical Studies.
Lucia attended a bilingual school in Uruguay, her home country, from the age of two and a half. This ignited a love for learning and a passion for different cultures. Her love of English led her to work as an ESL Teacher in Montevideo.
As a child, most of her free time was spent at the beach or on her family’s farm. Following her parents, aunts and uncles while they tended the farm provided for many opportunities to see life happening.
These experiences gave her a deep appreciation for time spent in nature, and her favorite memories are linked to ponds, woods and sand.
Since moving to the Comox Valley 8 years ago to join her husband Adam, Lucia has reconnected with her creativity. She enjoys photography, circus arts, gardening and felting. She feel the freest when cycling, especially in a place as beautiful as Courtenay.
